If you’ve ever wended your way through the woods of Little Mountain Park, you know that these pristine trails are built to last. MVPF’s Trail Corps is a group of hard-working but fun-loving volunteers who pride themselves on creating a lasting and sustainable trail system that helps people explore the natural beauty of this mountain while having a unique experience with every visit. And we cannot do it without you.
The Little Mountain trail network consists of over ten miles of trails, built on the backs of over 17,000 volunteer hours- your neighbors, classmates, and co-workers. The elaborate trails snake from the peak to the floor of Little Mountain, offering many levels of challenge and passing through a wide range of ecosystems. The Trail Corps prides itself on the diverse and inclusive character of these trails, which are designed to accommodate anything from a toddler's first hike to a mountain biker's black diamond descent.
Mount Vernon Trails Corps relies on generous donations to help care for and advance the many additions they’ve added to Little Mountain Park. We have designed and installed signs across the mountain to help with trail identification. Maps are available for hikers and bikers alike to know which trails they are on and what is accessible to them. We have also partnered with REI to create a free, GPS-driven map app for following the trails with your smart phone, which can be found here. Financial support from donors like you help to cover our annual operating costs so our well-trained volunteer leads can organize and provide a regular schedule of safe and fun work parties and build upon our strong partnership with the City of Mount Vernon Parks Department.
Construction and maintenance of the Little Mountain trail system is an always-evolving process. We organize regular volunteer trail days where we invite community members out to work on the trail system. We are always looking for sponsors for these work parties. If your business would like to donate to help cover insuring, recruiting, training and feeding our volunteers, as well as other costs of maintaining these trails, please contact us. This park is the community’s, and it takes a community to keep it looking great.
For those that want to get their hands dirty, volunteers are always wanted on our trail building days. All we need if is your enthusiasm for helping our parks grow and prosper, and we’ll provide the rest.
