MVPF’s Trail Builders group was one of four participants in the Skagit Valley Food Co-Op's Token for Tomorrow program. This program raised $220.30 for our organization. Thank you to the Co-Op and those of you who contributed to our program.
Work Has Begun on Our Latest Trail
We had 16 volunteers turn out for a great work session on July 23rd. We began work improving an old trail that will serve as a bypass around Fred's Trail. It was a beautiful day and we accomplished a lot.
Art worked at the front of the crew bushwhacking a path through the bushes beneath the power lines.
MVPF’s volunteer trail builders are taking August off. We'll be back in September to continue this new trail. Come out and join us September 10th.
Work Begin's on Another New Trail
On Saturday, 7/23, we will begin work on a new multi-use trail system linking Sidewinder to Down South on the south side of Little Mountain. This will be composed of several new multi-use trails. This project was made possible because our hiking friends, on the south side, have agreed to work with us. We flagged the first section Monday and the Mount Vernon Parks Department approved it Tuesday. A special thanks to Ginny Darvill and the Parks Department for an exceptional effort. We will be meeting at the parking area at the top of the mountain at 10:00am. In addition to our normal Starbucks Coffee and Haggen Pastries, lunch will be provided by two amazing supporters we call the “Soup Ladies.” They make the best homemade soups and bread on the planet. We're not sure what they have planned, but we know it will be amazing.
Restoration Ecologist Helps Put Finishing Touches on Little Mountain Trails
Friends, followers, and trail builders, Good news, our plan has come together. We’re doing something different. Paul Marczin, an experienced Restoration Ecologist, is leading an effort to ensure the general health of our trail corridor. So, the July 9th Trail Work Party will also be a learning session.
Paul will be leading our effort to put the finishing touches on our trails. The trails we’re referring to lead from the Little Mountain park entrance to the summit; they are called La-Z-Boy, Huff-N-Puff, and Sidewinder.
We'll be pulling Herb Robert, a noxious weed also known as “Stinky Bob”, covering bare soils with duff (organic materials) – and bringing in mulch where we have inadequate amounts of duff. For clarity sake, the duff (and mulch) help to naturally deter weed growth.
We hope you’ll join us.
