Mount Vernon City Council Honors Hannah Levine

On November 2nd Hannah Levine, a volunteer with and donor to the Mount Vernon Trail Builders, was recognized for her outstanding contribution of $300. Donations are very important to our organization as they help pay for tools and equipment used in our trail building efforts. Parks Directory Larry Otos and Mayor Bud Norris presented Hannah with a framed certificate recognizing her community involvement.

On Saturday Oct 22 we continued working on our new Southern Loop project. This part of the mountain is very rocky which lets us build some nice rock walls and reinforce the trail bed without having to bring in materials from far down the trail.

The next day we were back at it working on Fred's Trail. The section we focused on was a steep part of the hillside without a clearly defined trail tread. The area was suffering from erosion so we decided to build a switchback around a large tree and install a wooden hand rail. We're quite happy with how it turned out.

At the end of the day a few of us sat on the picnic tables at the top of Little Mountain and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. What a great way to end a weekend of trail building!
