Little Mountain Nature Trail Is Open!

The Nature Trail is done and we could not be more pleased. Friday and Saturday we got back to our excellent volunteer turnouts. We finished the capping of the trail with an hour of daylight left. We knew it would be close, but this was amazing. The session was extraordinary in a number of ways:

· On Friday afternoon the Mayor's office sent us thirteen volunteers.

· The "A Team" (our Seattle volunteers) showed up in force and, as always, they were amazing.

· We set a two day material moving record with over thirty yards of gravel.

· And Mayor Boudreau came out on Saturday to see how it was going. That was awesome.

So we finished up as usual with great meals and adult beverages at the Porterhouse. Thank you volunteers, donors, supporters, followers and the City of Mount Vernon for everything you did. Now we hope you'll join us Friday Sept. 28th for the festivities.

And a special thanks to Steve, our weekend guy at Mount Vernon Parks and Recreation. Saturday afternoon we determined we were going to be short on gravel to finish the project and he got us a load on short notice. That's resourcefulness!

Help Out With Finishing The Nature Trail & Bridge

Good news, we see the finish line on this project. The bridge is done, we just have some rock walls to finish and crushed rock to spread. With large volunteer turnouts both Friday and Saturday we'll finish it just in time for the ribbon cutting celebration on September 28th.

We are starting at 9:00AM both days and lunch will be provided for you.

Everyone is invited to our ribbon cutting celebration on September 28th. Please RSVP to the Mount Vernon Parks Foundation. Afterwards some people plan to hike, run, or ride. Then at 6:00 pm downtown there will be an all ages after party where we'll enjoy trail building photos, appetizers, beverages and dessert. And most importantly we'll be discussing our next project.

We hope to see many of you this coming weekend and at the festivities!

Trail Builders Needed This Weekend

We need your help this weekend. It is going to be nip and tuck to meet our schedule. While the bridge is assembled we will need to have a good turnout on Friday and Saturday to stay on schedule for the September 28th ribbon cutting ceremony with the Mayor.

This year we've been averaging sixteen volunteers. Last session there were only four of us. Jenny Sandbo and the Skagit Valley Food Coop provided an amazing lunch for us. It took a lot of Starbucks Coffee to get us moving afterwards. All joking aside, we need to see more of you this weekend.

As for the ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, September 28th at 3:00 pm we hope you'll join us. After the ribbon cutting we will have an all ages gathering downtown. It will start at 6:00 pm and last about two hours. It will be at The Front Gallery. There will be appetizers and the owner of North Sounding Brewing, Curt Ahrens, will be there with three of their amazing beers. We hope other businesses will want to be involved.

The venue and adult beverages are being donated.

So since we have so much to get done we hope to see many of you this weekend. On Friday we start at 9:00 am, and on Saturday at 10:00 am. Due to a generous donation by Skagit Runners we’ll have lunch both days.
